About Me

My photo
I love to make things. I make things out of fabric (and sometimes make my own fabric), I love making books and I make things using wire, papier mache and found objects. Welcome to my blog. Here you will find little bits of daily life, my latest news and the odd ramble.

Practice fabric bag making workshop

My neighbour asked me to make her a bag and so I told her if she let me show her how to make one herself she could keep it.

And so I got to practice one of the workshops I am going to deliver. Here are some pictures of the evening.

Here she is cutting out the pattern.

Below, she is sewing the bits together.

The finishing touches to the bag and handle are the hardest part, you have to turn the bag the right way around and iron it flat before stitching around the edge of the whole bag, it is quite fiddly as you are trying to get a professional look.

Adding the ribbon to the handle to hide the join was the worst part as you know it is the last step and you don't want to make a mistake.

And here is it, the finished bag that my friend made all by herself with instruction from me.

It took a couple of hours to do, what with the sewing machine breaking down, a sprint across the road to get another sewing machine and a trip to the off licence to get some medicinal help.

Yep, I'd say she likes it.
