About Me

My photo
I love to make things. I make things out of fabric (and sometimes make my own fabric), I love making books and I make things using wire, papier mache and found objects. Welcome to my blog. Here you will find little bits of daily life, my latest news and the odd ramble.

If in doubt, overdress - Vivienne Westwood

In Uni last year, we were given a brief called 'Quote, Unquote' where we picked a quote by somebody famous.  What started off as a Typeface research project shifted into (for me anyway) a Textiles project.

Here are some images of my sketch book

I was playing with font and letters and incorporating Westwood's iconic style.

The next set of images are my work sheets, that helped me arrive at the final piece.

I brought in the union jack, tartan, safety pins, layering and targets - just like Westwood has used on her garments.

The peacock emerged out of thinking about overdressers.

The pecock feather detail above was made out of recycled fabric and a bundle of zips that I had lying around.  It was this piece that inspired the garment.

The bundle of zips I had, happened to be a big bag full of them and so I used them to make a bodice.  The bodice is size adjustable thanks to the placing of the zips and the directions in which they close.  It can go from a size 14 to a 12.  The skirt is made using stiff netting and a whole heap of safety pins.

So without further ado, I introduce 'Quote:Unquote' by Coral and modelled by my very, very special friend Lowri Mai Fairy (http://www.twinkleandgloom.com/)

The above series of photographs were taken by Amy Knight Photograpy,

Sorry, can't get the image to rotate, you'll have to rotate your head instead x
